“They helped us see things we might have missed.”

- Erin Thomson
In the heart of Prince Edward County, Scott's Automotive has patiently built something unique: an auto repair shop where transparency and integrity isn’t just a promise – it's their business model.
Founded in 2018 and co-owned by Technicians Jesse Scott and Brian Thomson with Account Manager Erin Thomson, the shop embodies the kind of straightforward, honest approach that makes you wonder why all businesses don't operate this way.
"We wanted to open an auto shop and base it on integrity," shares co-owner Erin Thomson, her voice warm with conviction. "We put everything on paper, and walk clients through our diagnostic processes, and making sure they're in control of decisions about their vehicles."
At Scott's Automotive, every repair begins with clear communication. Whether it's a routine maintenance check on a newer model luxury car or a complex repair on a vintage European vehicle, clients always know exactly what's happening with their cars.

The shop's specialty in European vehicles emerged from co-owner Brian Thomson's and Jesse Scott’s combined 40+ years of dedicated experience in the category. "When someone brings in their cherished family vehicle, we take the time to walk them through every detail," Thomson shares with enthusiasm. "After all, these aren't just cars to restore – they're industrial art."

This approach to doing business found its perfect match in Community Futures, whose guidance helped transform skilled craftsmanship into sustainable success. Their partnership provided not just financial support but also the kind of practical wisdom that comes from years of nurturing local businesses.
Community Futures' support helped Scott's Automotive develop this personal touch into a thriving business model. "They helped us see things we might have missed," Thomson reflects. "From succession planning to community connections, they made sure we had all the tools we needed to grow sustainably."
What's particularly heartwarming is how Scott's Automotive approaches competition. Rather than viewing other local garages as rivals, they've created a network of cooperation. They regularly connect with other shops to ensure every customer – locals and visitors alike – gets the help they need. "We believe it's better to be good neighbours than fierce competitors," Thomson explains, a philosophy that seems to come naturally to this family-owned business.

This collaborative spirit extends to their commitment to training the next generation, with active co-op programs with local high schools and two apprentices currently studying at Loyalist College.

"You have to grow where you're planted," Thomson says warmly. "It's about making our whole community better, not just our own business." And it shows in everything they do, from their transparent pricing to their willingness to answer questions long after a repair is complete.

Looking ahead, Scott's Automotive aims to continue its sustainable growth while staying true to their values. "We're the neighbors you see in the grocery store," Thomson says with a smile. "When clients come to us, we want them to feel confident and comfortable with every decision."
It's this honest, transparent approach that makes Scott's Automotive more than just an auto repair shop – it's a testament to how business can be done when community comes first.

For entrepreneurs looking to follow a similar road, Thomson offers straightforward advice: "Talk to Community Futures about your plan. They're genuinely interested in helping you succeed, and they'll welcome every question you bring to the table."
